The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian arrived in Tripoli on Monday for a series of meetings with Libyan leaders who took part in the Paris Meeting on May 30.
During his meeting with Le Drian, Fayez al-Sarraj, President of the Presidential Council, affirmed the commitment of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) to the democratic path and to work towards creating the atmosphere for the elections by providing support and facilities to the Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC).
Al-Sarraj stressed the need for other parties to adhere to the electoral entitlement and prepare the constitutional framework to be held on time and to end the method of maneuver that prevailed in the past periods, and said: “we must focus on the success of the political track and work to end the attempts to block elections by some of the parties.”
After the meeting, Le Drian traveled to Cyrenaica to meet Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan National Army General Commander in the Benghazi suburb al-Rajmah. He will also meet with chancellor Aguila Saleh, the President of the House of Representatives in Al-Qubbah.
