Both Italy And Libya Islamists Oppose Holding Elections In Libya, Said HoR Member

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

LIBYA – Said Mougheib, member of the House of Representatives (HoR), said on Tuesday that the Italian Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta’s visit to Tripoli following the visit of French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian comes in the context of the competition between Rome and Paris on Libya.

HoR member Mougheib explained in an interview with “Erem News” that it is in Italy’s interest not to hold elections and or have a unified government and institutions in Libya. “Italy strongly pushes for extending for the Sarraj weak government, so it can control and manage it as it pleases,” Mougheib said.

“This is the dream of Italy, which the Italians did not expect to achieve,” he said. “If it is achieved, they will not give it up and will not let it go easily.” He added.

The HoR member also pointed out that Italy and Libya Islamists, as well as other countries benefiting from the current situation in Libya, will not allow their exit from the scene, so they refuse elections in Libya.
