LIBYA – The envoy of the Secretary-General of the Arab League to Libya, Salah al-Din al-Jamali, affirmed the need to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya before the end of this year, according to the Paris agreement. He said that calling for the not postponing these elections under the pretext of the referendum on the constitution.
Al-Jamali explained in a statement to the “Libya’s Channel” TV on Wednesday that the aim of the upcoming elections is to end the suffering of the Libyan people, pointing out that when the state settles and there is a new parliament, it can supervise the establishment of a consensus constitution.
Al-Jamali revealed that Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit encourages the holding of elections as soon as possible before the end of the year, stressing that the Arab League is fully prepared to participate in organizing the elections.
“Elections put things in perspective and give the state full sovereignty and the people voices must be heard, because the situation in Libya cannot wait,” Al-Jamali concluded.
