Rome Seeking Washington Help On Expansion Of Paris’ Influence In Tripoli

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

WASHINGTON – Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, said he would ask US President Donald Trump, during their summit in Washington, for a coordination between the two countries to accompany the political transition in Libya, according to ACI.

ACI reported that Conte was looking forward to a coordination between Rome and Washington on the Mediterranean issues by forming a joint operations room between the foreign and defense ministers of the two countries.

This coordination, which Conte demands, comes amid differences between France and Italy, where France wants elections in Libya before the end of this year, while Italy calls for the priority of reconciliation among the Libyan parties before the elections, as has been stated more than once, according to ACI.
