Interim government denouncing Beroni’s statement

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

Al-BAYDA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government denounced and condemned, in the strongest terms, the interference, which it described as barefaced and irresponsible, of the Italian ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Beroni in Libyan affairs, without taking into his account the most basic rules and customs of diplomatic relations between States.

“The issue of the the elections organizing and timing is an internal affair in which no outside party has the right to intervene, and the actions of Beroni reflect the colonial mentality that is gone and will not return,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.

“The Italian ambassador has forgotten that Libya is an independent sovereign state, a member of the United Nations, not a country under the tutelage, and will not accept interference in its internal affairs from Italy or any other country, stressing that the Libyan people are able to solve their own problems, and others must respect their will and sovereignty over their own land,” the Ministry added.

The comments made by the Italian ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Beroni sparked a wave of public anger, when he said, on an interview via a program broadcasted by a Libyan channel, that Italy did not want holding elections in Libya at any cost.
