The Address | Benghazi – Libya
Al-Baida – The Libyan Observatory for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms expressed surprise and wonder at the resolution issued by the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) to appoint State Councilor Saleh Makhzoum as Libya’s Ambassador to Senegal.
The competent authorities should issue an arrest warrant against Makhzoum and refer him to the Office of Investigations of the Attorney-General for investigating into the serious violations committed against the people of the city of Bani Walid as a result of Resolution No. 7 of 2012 issued by the General National Congress, of which Al-Makhzoum was a member, The Observatory said in a statement.
The Observatory considered the resolution to appoint Makhzoum as an ambassador as contrary to the law and human rights and dignity, and a violation of the resolution of the legislative authority, as stipulated in Article 5 of Resolution No. 15 of 2017 issued by the House of Representatives.
The Observatory called on the Presidential Council to immediately and expeditiously cancel its resolution, apologize to the people of Bani Walid and refer Makhzoum to the General Prosecution.
If the resolution is not cancelled by the presidential council, the observatory will demand, as a solidarity with the people of Bani Walid, to challenge the resolution through the judicial authorities, The Observatory said.
