Italian Prime Minister Conte sees no urgency for the Libyan elections

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

ROME – Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Wednesday that Libya has strategic importance for Italy, for historical and geopolitical reasons.

Conte renewed the warning that speeding up Libya’s general elections without guarantees of reconciliation between the political parties would not bring stability.

The Italian prime minister said the aim was to “stabilize Libya” so that the upcoming elections will be conducted with adequate guarantees. “The acceleration of the electoral process does not achieve stability and the elections should be reached gradually,” he said.
