The Address | Benghazi – Libya
BENGHAZI – Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), reiterated the LNA support to holding presidential and parliamentary elections on December 10 as the only political solution to the current political crisis and the divide of state institutions as it represents the move forward to the stage of stability.
In an interview with the al-Marsad Newspaper yesterday, Marshal Haftar stressed the need for the other parties in the Paris Declaration to implement their commitments in the Declaration to create the appropriate conditions and environment and to provide the necessary legislative, executive, security and logistical requirements to conduct the December elections.
In response to accusations to LNA of intentions towards military coups, Marshal Haftar denied such intentions describing the Muslim Brotherhood, Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and their allies as coups experts with the support of some regional parties sponsoring terrorism and chaos in the region at the expense of the democratic path by rejecting the results of the parliamentary elections and the peaceful transfer of power in 2014.
The reasons Islamist politicians and militias used to refuse the peaceful transfer of power in 2014 cannot justify the large amount of Libyan blood that was shed and the political divide that happened afterward and was a cause of negative foreign interference in Libya, Haftar added.
