TRIPOLI – Head of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, received on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Council in Tripoli, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Farid Belhadj. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister of GNA, Mohamed Sayala, and Planning Minister, Al-Tahir Al-Juhaimi.
“Economy and politics are closely linked, especially in the current exceptional Libyan situation,” The media office of the Council quoted Al-Sarraj, adding that the political and institutional divide is reflected negatively on the economy and the lives of citizens.
The meeting discussed the economic file and the planned reforms to address the distortions in the financial and economic situation. The meeting also discussed ways of the World Bank’s contribution to the recovery of the Libyan economy and supporting the government’s efforts to resolve bottlenecks in key service sectors.
Al-Sarraj pointed to the need to discuss the details of the financial and economic aspects with the Minister of Planning and other concerned ministers and the Higher Policy Committee, and stressed that he seeks formulas of cooperation to contribute to alleviate the suffering of Libyan citizens without incurring them with new burdens.
