Demolition works of war destroyed buildings began in Benghazi

BENGHAZI – The Municipality of Benghazi began demolition works of buildings, which were completely destroyed during the war against extremist militias, under the supervision of the Office of Technical Affairs in the Housing Sector And Facilities, the Municipality media office announced today.

The decision to demolish these buildings was based on the inventory carried out by the Building Damage Assessment and Evaluation Committee, the Municipality media office added, indicating that “these works are in compliance with the decisions of the Benghazi Reconstruction Committee, headed by the Prime Minister of the Libyan Interim Government, Abdullah Al-Thani.

The city of Benghazi witnessed, since May 2014, a three-year war between the Libyan National Army (LNA), supported by locals, and extremist groups such as ISIS, al-Qaida, and Ansar al-Sharia. About 7000 got killed and 1000 injured, and the war resulted in Major Libyan National Army victory, while ISIS, al-Qaida withdrawal towards the west of Libya, and Ansar al-Sharia dissolved itself.
