Melita – The fire department of the Mellitah Oil and Gas Complex succeeded yesterday in controlling a fire in the gas line (Al-Wafa) near the station 15 in Ajilat town west of Libya.
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) said, in a statement on its website, that the fire, which it described as a criminal act, had been completely controlled thanks to the great efforts of the fire department at the complex of Mellitah, while no damage to the line was reported.
Some preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was the result of a criminal act of sabotage, while some of the RPGs and the amount of gasoline and some tires were found at near the fire location, NOC said.
“The industrial security department of both the National Oil Corporation and the Mellitah complex is working with the Petroleum Facilities Guards and the competent authorities to investigate in this regard and find out who is behind these heinous acts,” NOC added.
NOC concluded that its board of directors condemns this “criminal act” and stressed that it will take all necessary legal measures to hold accountable the criminals who “represent a threat to the wealth of the Libyan people.”
