TOBRUK – Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Abdullah Belhiiq, said in the case of absence of a quorum for the constitutional amendment in the session of next Monday, an interim president of the country will be elected directly from the people, after the activation of resolution No. (05) for the year 2014.

HoR had suspended its session yesterday to next Monday, corresponding to the third of September.

In his statement after the session, Belhiiq said HoR resumed its session under the chairmanship of Counselor Aqila Saleh, and at the presence of a number of representatives in the House.

He added that Counselor Aqila Saleh delivered a speech, during the opening of the session, on the situation in the country, stressing that our homeland is exposed to internal and external conspiracies aimed at its instability and continuation of chaos, noting that the reason why we could not reach a consensus to end this crisis was external interventions and personal interests.

He confirmed that Counselor Aqila Saleh called on the representatives to accomplish the amendment of the Constitutional Declaration. Otherwise, HoR should activate the resolution No. (05) for the year 2014 to elect a president directly from the people.

He concluded his speech by saying that HoR, in today’s session, ended up to determining the next Monday’s session for conducting the constitutional amendment, and in the case of absence of a quorum, which will lead to HoR inability to amend the Constitutional Declaration, HoR will activate Resolution No. (05) for 2014, which is to elect an interim president of the country directly from the people.
