CBL rival governors meet in Tunis under UNSMIL supervision

TUNIS – Rival governors of the Central Bank of Libya met yesterday in Tunisia after an invitation from SRSC Ghassan Salamé, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya – UNSMIL announced.

The meeting, according to a UNSMIL brief statement on its Twitter account, was held in the UNSMIL headquarters in Tunis between Sadiq al-Kabir, governor of the Tripoli-based Central Bank of Libya and Ali al-Hibri, the Benghazi-based Central Bank of Libya governor.

“The meeting discussed reviewing the work of the Central Bank in both Tripoli and Benghazi and was positive in its results,” UNSMIL added with no further details given.

On July 10, Fayez Serraj, the head of the proposed Presidential Council, called on the UN Security Council to form a technical international committee of specialized financial and economic experts under the supervision of the United Nations to carry out a review of revenues, expenditures and transactions of the Central Bank of Libya in both Tripoli and in Benghazi.
