TRIPOLI – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned today the escalation of violence in its third day in the Greater Tripoli area and called for an immediate ceasefire on all fronts.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Ghassan Salamé, communicated with the Libyan parties for immediately halting all hostilities, resuming ceasefire talks and finding longer-term solutions to ensure the safety and security of Tripoli, its institutions, and residents, UNSMIL said in a press statement.

The mission added that Salame was communicating with members of the UN Security Council as well as regional and international actors with influence on the Libyan parties in order to push for calm and call for an end to military mobilization and sit at the negotiating table.
