TRIPOLI – Al-Wadan Hotel, located in al-Dahra area in the center of Tripoli near the Italian Embassy, at dawn on Saturday, was hit by a shell that wounded three guests staying on the fourth floor.
The Hotel is very close to the Italian Embassy, 170-meter away, 2-minute waking.
The shelling came after Reconciliation and Conflict Resolution Committees announced a ceasefire agreement in areas south of Tripoli between the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) forces and the Seventh Brigade late on Friday.
Two shells fell on the hotel at 5:50 am, injuring three people, the Directorate of Security – Tripoli announced.
Pictures on social media showed remnants of the hotel’s exposure to a shell, as one of them highlighted the presence of patches of blood, which confirms the exposure of some people to wounds.
The authorities of GNA did not state whether the target of the shell was the building of the Italian Embassy, and the latter did not comment on what happened next door, not even by tweeting.
On August 27, the Italian Embassy said it was still operating at full capacity, amid armed clashes in Tripoli.
