DUBAI – UAE Vice President and Prime Minister announced the name of the first Arab astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), who will be UAE astronauts.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said in a tweet that the two astronauts Hazza al-Mansouri and Sultan al-Neyadi would take part in the mission scheduled for next year.
“We have the only program to launch a Mars probe in the region. We have the capabilities of 100 percent satellite industry, we have national astronauts, we have a space sector with investments of 20 billion dirhams, and most importantly, we have a man who has no roof for his aspirations except the sky, He added.
“the Arab man can, if conditions are available,” the Sheikh stressed.
It is mentioned that UAE is running an ambitious space program and hopes to launch its first satellite, KhalifaSat, in October from Japan. It also wants to launch a Mars probe in 2020.
