Russia warns Western Countries over demands of GNA

The Address – Benghazi – Libya

MOSCOW – Russian Ambassador to Libya has warned his counterparts from the United States, Italy and Britain not to comply with any request by the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) to intervene in Libya, except to fight IS, Russian high-level diplomatic sources confirmed.

Russian Ambassador informed the ambassadors of his letter directly after being carried to him by the Special Envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Libya, Mikhail Bogdanov, the sources said.

Bogdanov’s letter comes after the talks held by the Head of the Presidential Council of GNA, Fayez al-Sarraj, in Tunisia with the leadership of AFRICOM, where he asked them to intervene in his favor in Tripoli, although AFRICOM assured him that its war in Libya is limited to IS, the sources added.

Russia warned of the bias of these countries in favor of one of the parties to the conflict in Libya, stressing that dialogue and elections are the only solution to a permanent solution to the problem of legitimacy in Libya, and warned that it would not allow any operations outside the consensus of the Security Council or repeating the scenario of the Western intervention in Libya in 2011.
