ALGIERS – German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an urgent solution to the Libyan crisis. In a joint press conference with Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on Monday, Merkel said, “Germany must accompany Algeria in resolving the Libyan crisis because it is making efforts to maintain peace and security in the region along border bar with neighbouring countries experiencing conflicts.”
The German chancellor added that she discussed with Ouyahia and Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel the role of Algeria in solving the crisis in Libya, saying, “We must find a solution together, because solveing the Libyan crisis is in the interest of Algeria and Germany.”
The German chancellor arrived in Algiers on Monday, where she was received at the Hawari Boumediene airport by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia and a number of cabinet ministers.
