BANI WALID – British Ambassador to Libya Frank Becker on Wednesday welcomed the conclusion of municipal elections in the towns of Bani Walid and Daraj, noting that his country continues to support Libya in the democratic process.

Becker said in a tweet via his personal account that the UK will be providing 1.2 million euros over two years to support “fair and safe local and national elections”.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Sub-committee of the Municipal Council Elections in Bani Walid announced the preliminary results of the elections and the opening of appeals to the candidates, but unknown actors set fire to the election sub-committee headquarter.

The Committee assured the safety of documents related to the electoral process, stressing that «all documents and information regarding the elections are protected and safe and in the possession of the Central Committee and the Subcommittee».
