ROME – Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero reaffirmed Italy’s support for “transparent and democratic elections in Libya to be held in the times and ways that only the people of Libya can decide, in line with the UN Action Plan”, Italian news agency AKI reported.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry said Italy “remains committed to close dialogue with all trustworthy stakeholders, in order to facilitate a more rapid national reconciliation”.

“The goal is to contribute to the implementation of the UN Action Plan and to consolidate the essential political, legislative, and security preconditions,” it said.

The statement came subsequent to a meeting between Moavero and the Government of National Accord’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Taher Siala.
