UNSMIL convenes a meeting to consolidate a ceasefire in Tripoli

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) convened a meeting today between the country’s diplomatic community and Head of Ceasefire Monitoring Committee Major General Hussein Abdullah to discuss consolidating a ceasefire in Tripoli.

In a tweet via its Twitter account, UNSMIL stated, “diplomats expressed readiness to facilitate the committee’s operations, through logistical support”.

Tripoli has witnessed deadly clashes since 26 August that killed at least 78 people and injured 210 others. UNSMIL recently brokered a ceasefire agreement between conflicting militias; however, clashes erupted again in southern Tripoli since Tuesday morning, causing a power blackout in the south and west of the country.
