Rome seeks to drag Washington to focus more on Libya

TRIPOLI – Italian media sources confirmed that Rome is working hard to draw Washington into more attention and focus on what is happening in Libya.

According to Milan’s Corriere della Sera newspaper, the Americans have returned to deal more specifically with Libya, with Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo studying the possibility of participating in a conference organized by Italy in the second half of November in Sicily.

The Italian Foreign Ministry led by Enzo Moavero Milanesi and Italian diplomacy in Washington has been moving for weeks with the US State Department, but the official invitation has not yet been addressed. The newspaper quoted a State Department official as saying, “The contacts are there, but at this moment we do not have official announcements to do”.

The newspaper quoted a source close to the Italian Foreign Minister as saying, “The Italian executive branch is working to expand dialogue with all parties in Libya, giving priority to stability and security in the country”.
