DERNA – The Libyan National Army discovered hidden graves in the city of Derna as a part of its investigations against the illegal practices of terrorist groups such as ISIS and the al Qaeda-affiliated groups Shura Council of Derna.

A specific incident investigated by the army details how an ISIS terrorist named Mousa Al Turkawi murdered his own brother who was a staff member of the Central Support Service in the city of Al Qubbah.

Al Turkawi revealed to the army the scene of the crime and the burial place, which is located in the forest of Abu Msafir on the outskirts of Derna, after he confessed to the killing his brother and showed how he carried out the brutal execution.

The Red Crescent and the investigation teams working in Gernada Correction Facility have been involved in both the extraction of the decomposed bodies and the investigation phase. The bodies were transferred to a refrigerator to save the dead in preparation for the issuance of orders from the LNA General Commander, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, to honor their families and to conduct military funerals for them as ‘martyrs of duty’.

The Libyan National Army has announced the liberation of Derna last June from ISIS and al-Qaeda-affiliated Shura Council of Mujahideen in Derna that used to control the coastal city since the overthrow of dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
