Trump May Attend International Conference on Libya in Italy in November: Italian PM

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

ROME – US President Donald Trump will take part in the international conference on Libya in Italy in November provided that he has time in the midst of the midterm elections, Sputnik quoted the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

“During the working breakfast, we discussed with Trump various issues, including Libya. You know, there’s a delicate moment coming for him with the midterms (congressional elections), we’ll see whether he will be able to come to Italy to attend the conference,” Conte told reporters on the UN General Assembly sidelines.

It is noteworthy that Italy is pushing for not holding elections in Libya in December, as its ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone, had said in a televised interview in August that Italy did not want holding elections in Libya at any cost, which sparked angry protests in several Libyan cities denouncing the ambassador’s televised remarks. Italian flag was burned in such protests in Tripoli, Benghazi, Sebha, and Sabratha.
