MADRID – The Spanish aid organization Proactiva Open Arms announced yesterday via Twitter it will conduct rescue operations for migrants crossing the Mediterranean from Libya.
Ha llegado el momento: #Astral regresa al #Mediterráneo central.
Nada es más importante que denunciar la impunidad de quienes condenan a muerte a tantos invisibles en el mar o de vuelta al infierno #Libia

“The time has come: #Astral returns to the central Mediterranean,” said the NGO on Twitter in allusion to the name of one of their two ships. “Rescuing people in mortal danger from the sea is not an option but an obligation”, it concluded.
Previously, Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini had banned the entry of private vessels with rescued migrants into Italian ports, and prior to the announcement of Proactiva Open Arms, the Aquarius 2 of aid organizations SOS Méditerranée and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) was the only remaining rescue ship in the Mediterranean.
