TRIPOLI – “The latest opinion polls in Libya showed that more than 50 percent of the Libyans in the Western Region (Tripolitania) support Haftar to take the reins of the presidency of the country,” said Salah al-Bakoush, a political analyst known for his support of Islamic movements.
“That is worrisome,” said the interviewer in the pro-Islamism al-Tanasuh TV channel, describing what al-Bakoush mentioned about those opinion polls and the proportions in it. The remarks surprised Libyan activists on social media and were widely denounced.
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), which controls Cyrenaica, Fezzan, and some areas in Tripolitania.
