Two Italian fishing boats seized by LNA Coast Guard off Derna

DERNA – Two fishing boats of the navy of Mazara del Vallo, a town in the Italian province of Trapani, were seized late yesterday evening by the Libyan National Army Coast Guard patrol boats. The seizure took place about 29 miles from the Libyan coast of Derna.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica quoted the mayor of Mazara del Vallo, Nicola Cristaldi, as saying that the first boat which is called “Aphrodite Pesca” had six men on board and the other one called “Matteo Marrarino” had seven men.

Cristaldi claimed that “a Libyan patrol boat has fired at the boats of our city, there have been no deaths or wounded by a miracle”.

According to La Repubblica, the Libyan military boarded the two vessels, and have ordered the commanders to embark on navigation to the Libyan coast. The two fishing boats arrived in the night at the Ras Al Hilal port.
