ROME – Italian Foreign Ministry said working through diplomatic corridors to resolve the issue of fishing boats seized late Tuesday evening by the Libyan National Army Coast Guard patrol boats, La Stampa reported.

“Our diplomacy is committed so that the emergency will be resolved soon and at its best”, the Foreign Ministry said while adding that it is monitoring the situation in close contact with the Italian embassy in Tripoli.

The seizure of the two fishing boats of the navy of Mazara del Vallo, a town in the Italian province of Trapani, took place about 29 miles from the Libyan coast of Derna. The Libyan National Army (LNA) reiterates that the two Sicilian fishing boats, which arrived at night at the Ras Al Hilal port, have been intercepted in Libyan territorial waters.
