Conte meets with Salamé to discuss latest developments in Libya and the upcoming Palermo conference

ROME – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, met on Friday with head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNMSIL), Ghassan Salamé, to discuss latest developments in Libya as well as the upcoming Palermo conference on Libya, scheduled for November 12th and 13th.

According to a statement by the Italian government, Conte “reiterated the central role of the United Nations in the process of stabilization of Libya, as defined in the UN Action Plan, and underlined the fundamental contribution that the Organization can make to the success of the Conference.”

Salamé, for his part, said the conference can “give an essential signal of support of the international community to the political process”.
