TRIPOLI – The Foreign Information Department, a branch of the Foreign Ministry affiliated with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, announced on Monday that it will activate foreign press offices based in Libya.

According to Sputnik news agency, GNA has started the procedures of activating the media offices of the foreign media. The procedures are being reviewed in order to activate the role of foreign media institutions and “ensure a sound environment for the exercise of its work.”

The Tripoli-based government, led by Fayez al-Sarraj has long been criticized for its treatment of the press. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) previously condemned GNA for “obstructing and endangering foreign journalists” and stated that “the Sarraj government will not succeed in giving Libya a positive image by harassing foreign journalists and media”.
