The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – Many Libyan tribesmen held a demonstration at El Sharara oil field, located in southern Libya, and demanded improvement of standards of living and threatened to close the facilities if their demands are not met, Reuters reported.
Protesters called for improved state services such as water and bank liquidity for the southern region of Fezzan, where living standards have deteriorated over the years due to insecurity and the absence of state authority.
A protester said in a statement on a video posted on the Internet that protesters had given the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord until November 11th to meet their demands or face a halt to oil and gas production in Fezzan in general.
The Tripoli-based National Oil Corporation declined to comment.
