Italian PM invites Tunisian president to Palermo Conference on Libya

TUNIS – Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi was invited by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to the upcoming Conference on the Libyan crisis, Tunisian presidency said Friday.

Essebsi received the invitation to the conference scheduled for Nov. 12-13 in the Italian city of Palermo during Conte’s one-day official visit to Tunisia.

“Stability in Libya remains a key factor for stability throughout the North African and Mediterranean region,” Essebsi said.

Meanwhile, Conte reiterated Italy’s readiness to support Tunisia and ensure progress in bilateral cooperation for the common interests despite multiple challenges.

“Our two countries have shared a continuous tradition of cooperation in the fight against irregular immigration, terrorism and religious extremism. We are cooperating together to mobilize all means likely to eradicate these scourges,” he said.
