Arresting a “Shura Council of Benghazi” member injured in Sabratha attack

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

SABRATHA –  One of the members of the so-called Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries was arrested by the Security Room Forces of Sabratha, a room for fighting IS, on Sunday. He was injured due to his participation in the failed attack on Sabratha with the forces of “Ammo” and Gharabli.

The Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries was a military coalition in Benghazi composed of Islamist and jihadist militias, including Ansar al-Sharia, Libya Shield 1 and several other groups.

The force was initially formed in June 2014, in response both to the anti-terrorism Operation Dignity, led by the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and also the defeat of Islamist candidates in the 2014 House of Representatives (HoR) elections. Afraid of being sidelined and defeated, several Islamist brigades united under a shared umbrella.

The so-called Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries was defeated by LNA, which killed most of its influential leaders in Benghazi between 2014 and 2016 and totally controlled the city in 2017.
