Belgium admits leaking some frozen Libyan assets from its banks

Brussels – Belgian Finance Minister Johan van Overtveldt, during a Belgian parliament hearing on Wednesday on the issue of Libyan assets frozen under international sanctions since 2011, confirmed the leak of money from the profits accounts of those investments.

“We are talking about one billion euros At least came out of Libyan funds frozen since October 2012,” the Minister said.

This statement follows the denial of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) in Tripoli for the leak of any money, where it described what was rumored to be mere allegations in the absence of any official comment from the Triboli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).
