ROME – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, said, during a hearing before his country’s Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday, that “the Palermo conference is a fundamental step in the objective of stabilizing Libya and for the security of the whole Mediterranean”.
Conte said that “there is satisfaction with the high number of confirmations received so far” adding that “main interlocutors of the Libyan scenario will be present at the conference scheduled for November 12th and 13th.
“I want to clarify that we do not think we can solve all the problems but we want to create a sustainable meeting opportunity “, said Conte.
He also affirmed his government’s position regarding elections in Libya, stating, “we want to overcome the current deadlock in the political process with elections as early as possible as soon as the necessary political, legislative and security conditions are met”.
