BREAKING: Salamé says disciplined, regular police forces should protect Tripoli, not militias

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

NEW YORK – Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, addressed the UN Security Council on Thursday for his briefing on Libya. He said “our clear and balanced concept” regarding Tripoli’s security plan “involves stopping armed groups from outside Tripoli invading again and armed groups inside the capital cease using their position to penetrate, intimidate and control sovereign institutions. Disciplined, regular police forces should protect city, not militias.”
