Conte and El-Sisi discuss Libya on a phone call

CAIRO – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, and Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, had a telephone interview on Saturday in which they “examined bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional files of common interest, including in particular the situation in Libya “, according a statement from the Egyptian presidency without a mention of the Palermo conference.

“The president, in this framework, has confirmed the support of Egypt to all efforts in favor of a political solution to the Libyan crisis in accordance with the principles and the Egyptian position that it holds to the territorial integrity of Libya”, the statement continues quoting the presidential spokesman, Bassam Radi.

The statement also affirmed Egypt’s position which “supports national [Libyan] institutions and respects the will of its people in order to contribute to the return of stability and security in the Middle East”.
