The Address | Benghazi – Libya
PALERMO -Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, met on Monday with Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, on the margins of the Palermo conference.
According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, “Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Libya Gassan Salame.”
“During the conversation, the current aspects of the current situation in Libya were discussed in detail with a focus on the need for the earliest possible establishment of a sustainable political process aimed at achieving national harmony in the interest of creating unified governmental bodies through appropriate electoral procedures. At the same time, the Russian side confirmed the unwavering support of the efforts being made by G. Saliam in this area.”
In the same context, Bogdanov also met with chairman of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, where “a thorough exchange of views was held on the issue of normalizing the situation in Libya. At the same time, the Russian side reaffirmed its principled position in favor of overcoming inter-Libyan disagreements along the lines of a broad national dialogue in the interests of ensuring the unity, territorial integrity and state sovereignty of Libya.” According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
