Cyrenaica’s parliamentary bloc denounces the outcome of the Palermo Conference

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TOBRUK – Cyrenaica’s parliamentary bloc published on Wednesday a statement on the Palermo conference on Libya. In the statement, Cyrenaica’s bloc expressed their rejection over several key points issued by the summit.

The bloc expressed surprise at the summit’s welcoming of the proposals announced by UN envoy Ghassan Salamé during his briefing to the Security Council last Thursday, which they considered unfair to the parliament and contradicting to the political agreement.

The bloc also condemned the agreement on the continuation of the Presidential Council in its functions despite its lack of legitimacy and constitutionality in the words of the bloc. They also rejected the Libyan National Conference (Al-Multaqa Al-Watani) which is due to be held at the end of this year. The bloc said they will not recognize any outcomes of the upcoming conference.

The bloc said they were surprised that the Palermo conference did not address the issue of equitable distribution of power or efforts to amend the political agreement and the Presidential Council, according to their statement.
