ROME – Italy’s Foreign Minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, denied on Wednesday setting a specific time for elections in Libya, Italian news agency Aki reported.

According to Aki, Milanesi said that the Palermo conference did not specify a deadline for holding elections in Libya.

“The UN plan includes access to elections. At the [Paris] conference there was talking about December 10th, this time we did not set any dates but we set the time horizon in next spring. ”

The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salamé, said in a briefing to the Security Council last Thursday that “it is planned to have a National Convention been held in the first weeks of 2019, and it is supposed to be followed by an electoral process which will begin in the spring of the same year”. He also stressed that “80 percent of Libyans insist on holding elections.”
