IOM provides aid for 81 migrants still on board a cargo ship in Misurata for the 6th consecutive day

MISURATA –  The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said a statement on Thursday that its staff provided humanitarian aid for around 81 migrants whom are still on board a cargo ship in Misurata for the 6th consecutive day.

“Around 81 migrants are still on board a cargo ship in Misurata for the 6th consecutive day, refusing to leave. Since the beginning of this event, IOM and humanitarian actors have been providing food, water and winter blankets to sustain the people in the ship. We call for a peaceful resolution of the situation that ensures the safety of the migrants.” IOM said

More than 80 migrants picked up by a cargo ship off the Libyan coast have refused to disembark in the western city of Misurata.

Several international human rights organizations reported that migrants in Libya’s detention centers are subjected to serious human rights abuses including rape and torture.
