MARSEILLE – The Libyan Consulate General in Marseille denied in a statement on Saturday that its head of mission, Consul General Abdul-Salam Al Qathy, was arrested in France.

The statement, which was published by the Foreign Ministry of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, said that “the Libyan Consulate General in Marseille completely denies the news of the arrest of the Consul General, Mr. Abdul-Salam Al Qathy, and confirms that it is a false and unfounded news. It also demands that various media verify the news from reliable sources before it is circulated as is customary.”

Reports circulated on social media in the past couple of days that Al Qathy was arrested in France on charges of indecency.
