GNA: If migrants in Misurata ship refuse to negotiate, we’ll consider them infiltrators

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The Undersecretary for Immigration of the Interior Ministry of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, Mohamed Al-Shaibani, held a meeting on Sunday with Deputy Special Representative of the UN mission in Libya, Maria Ribeiro.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the General Directorate of Coast Security, Colonel Al-Bashir Al-Nour, and a number of delegates from international organizations.

According to a statement by the Tripoli-based Ministry, Al-Shaibani discussed the crisis of illegal immigrants aboard a ship in the port of Misurata and ways to find radical solutions and an urgent process “because this crisis is taking too much time and effort for it to end.”

“The Undersecretary also stressed the need to cooperate with all the international organizations involved in the migration dossier in negotiating with these migrants. The Undersecretary put forward some solutions, including the voluntary repatriation of all those who wish to return to their country or to deport them to any third country wishing to host them.” the statement said

“If these immigrants refuse to negotiate, we will resort to applying the laws and regulations in force within the Libyan state and consider them infiltrators so that this crisis won’t become a card for migrants to achieve their illegal demands.” the statement concludes
