Italian deputy denounces her country’s welcoming of Qatar as “disgusting”

ROME – Member of Chamber of Deputies of Italy and leader of the Brothers of Italy conservative party, Giorgia Meloni, denounced on Tuesday the Italian government’s welcoming of Qatar’s Emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which she described as “disgusting”.

In a statement via her Facebook page, Meloni also criticized Qatar for sponsoring terrorism as she stated, “Italy welcomes the emir of Qatar with all the honors. The same Qatar who finances mosques and Islamic centers that spread the disease of Islamic fundamentalism in the world and in Europe, where terrorism grows and bloody our cities. It is disgusting, and I did not it from expect this government.”

Al Thani, who arrived with a large delegation in the Italian capital on Monday, met with senior Italian officials, including President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, to discuss bilateral relations as well as the Libyan dossier.
