Spanish fishing boat trapped near Libya after rescuing migrants

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

MADRID – A Spanish fishing boat has been trapped in international waters near Libya for five days after having rescued twelve migrants who jumped into the sea last Thursday after their boat was harassed by a patrol boat from that country.

According to Sputnik, both Malta and Italy refused to let the rescued migrants be taken to some of their ports.

The Spanish government is negotiating with the Italian and Maltese authorities to find a solution, although at the moment the ship still has not received instructions on which port the migrants will be allowed to disembark.

According to the story offered by the shipping company Santa Pola, several of the migrants stated that they “prefer to die rather than return to Libya.”
