UNSMIL welcomes HoR decision regarding referendum law

TRIPOLI – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed on Tuesday the decision made by the House of Representatives to approve a constitutional amendment which includes the fortification of Article VI of the referendum law on the permanent constitution of the country.
UNSMIL said it welcomes efforts by the House of Representatives “to issue the required legislation, in order that Libya can transition to solid and stable institutions through a referendum on the draft constitution and general elections; and wishes it success in these endeavors.”
The House of Representatives approved in a session on Monday, a constitutional amendment which states on dividing Libya into three constituencies and the need for the draft constitution to acquire a vote of 50 + 1 in each region, in addition to two thirds of people’s votes nationwide.
