NOC’s chairman and Spanish Ambassador discuss joint projects in the oil field

TRIPOLI – Chairman of the Tripoli-based National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, met on Tuesday with Spanish ambassador to Libya, Francisco de Miguel, an his accompanying delegation at NOC’s headquarters in Tripoli.

According to a statement by NOC, “Ambassador de Miguel praised the NOC chairman and corporation for its political neutrality and contribution to Libya’s economic recovery. The Ambassador further commended NOC for increasing production, despite ongoing challenges. The NOC chairman expressed his gratitude to the Spanish government for its ongoing support of the corporation and commended the strength of relations with its long-standing partner Repsol.”

For his part, Sanalla praised the prominent role played by Repsol in helping the Corporation achieve its production and spatial development targets in areas close to its operations.

Security at the Sharara oilfield was also discussed, with Sanalla stressing the need for a unified national security apparatus to protect NOC and subsidiary facilities across the country. The meeting also addressed the issue of fuel smuggling, and how this can be combated through expanding the ‘Operation Sophia’ mandate.
