TRIPOLI – Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams, briefed on Wednesday the UN Security Council’s Working Group on Women, Peace and Security.
Williams affirmed UNSMIL’s commitment to ensure women’s full participation in the implementation of the UN Action Plan in Libya. She told the working group that UNSMIL works to provide space for women to participate in political, reconciliation and electoral processes, national consultations and economic reforms.
She stressed that UNSMIL is committed to women’s full participation in the upcoming National Conference which is due to be held in the spring of next year.
“United Nations’ efforts aim to advance the role and representation of Libyan women in all aspects of peace and security, including women perspectives and priorities in all UN programmers, in addition to building their capacities and ensuring women voices are heard.” Williams said.
