The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – A fighter of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos was killed in a US airstrike by AFRICOM forces on a convoy of al-Qaeda terrorist organization in the Wadi Filalan area near the town of Awainat, north of Gatt, on Thursday.

This fighter is named Mussa Ala Toni al-Tarqqi. He participated in the battles of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos against the terrorist group ISIS in the southern city of Sirte in 2016.

A number of his relatives in the city of Ubari confirmed his death in the airstrike.

An obituary picture published by some relatives of al-Tarqqi through social media announcing his death in the strike.

In footage taken on June 24, 2016, which were broadcast by the mouthpiece channel of the Muslim Brotherhood Al-Nabba, al-Tarqqi appeared with a group of armed men fighting against ISIS in Sirte.

In the same footage, al-Tarqqi appeared as a leader among his group, he monitors and crawls on the ground and shoots towards the targets of ISIS that were stationed in the Saffran district of Sirte during the war against the extremist organization with the support of the United States America.

Earlier this year, al-Tarqqi’s brother was killed in an AFRICOM airstrike in Ubari, which also targeted elements of the so-called al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

Sources confirmed that al-Tarqqi is a resident of the Sharab neighborhood of Ubari and that he has recently been involved in activities which al-Qaeda use to finance itself, such as arms smuggling and other prohibited activities.

The same sources excluded that al-Tarqqi  is a prominent member of AQIM which is active in southern Libya, and indicated that he’s among several cells of the organization’s collaborators at several levels, while other sources affirmed his affiliation to the terrorist organization.

Sources also confirms hat among the dead is a leading figure in AQIM but the identity and nationality of this figure has not yet been revealed. The rest of those killed by the airstrike were accomplices and collaborators.

The remains of some objects and one of the bodies at the site of the strike indicates the possible presence of a woman from among those killed, whom may be the wife of one of AQIM leaders or elements.

This information comes to provoke controversy again about the hypothesis that criminal collaborators or terrorist elements linked to al-Qaeda infiltrated the fight against ISIS in Sirt in order to settle scores with the latter in the context of the difference between the two organizations, as happened in Syria and Iraq.

Meanwhile, the leadership of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos calls for more attention from the Presidential Council to its fighters and to treat the wounded and compensate the families of those who died in the fight against ISIS. In addition to other demands such as paying financial rewards to its fighters.
