Belgian deputies demand to question former Minister of Treasury over Libya’s frozen assets

The Address – Benghazi – Libya

BRUSSELS – The Finance Committee of the Belgian House of Representatives demand to former Minister of Treasury, Marc Monbaliu, over the Belgian government’s alleged abuse of Libya’s frozen assets, Belgium’s Le Soir reported.

The representatives are interested in the conditions in which Belgium (via its Treasury) authorized in October 2012 the Euroclear bank to release interest generated by Libyan funds, frozen by order of the United Nations at the time.

The representatives sent written questions to Monbaliu, whom was the Minister Treasury in 2012, via email. However, the written answers which arrived last Wednesday was not satisfactory to the representatives who now call for a formal hearing of the former head of the Treasury.
